Le Chat Noir
Entertainment, Art and Culture in Paris1880-1910
A lot of artists tried the experiment on the art in a wide field in Paris
from the late 19the to the early 20th century.
Especialy, young artists gathered in cafè-consert(music cafe)and the cabaret
at that time, were doing the experimental activity of various genres such
as visual art, music, dance, literature,and plays.
Avant-garde was brought up in the popular culture by motive power of the
satire, the humor, and the laugh to the society at that time. It spread
to not only Paris but also Vienne and Berlin, and it developed into a social
culture at Belle Epoque at the end of 19th century.
This exhibiton focuses on the cabaret"Chat Noir", and presents
about the 200works such as the paintings, posters, programs that depicts
the shadow plays, concerts, circuses caught by the aspect of popular culture
and amusement.
