Lisa Larson was born in Sweden in 1931. In 1954, while still a student, one of her works which had been submitted to a design competition, caught the eye of Stig Lindberg, and she was subsequently recruited to work in the Gustavsberg porcelain factory, a major ceramic producer. Over the next 26 years, Lisa Larson designed hundreds of items for mass production and attracted widespread attention. On becoming a freelance designer in 1980 she continued to design for what was now becoming an ever-growing worldwide market. In 2022 the Swedish government bestowed upon her the royal gold medal “Illis Quorum”, which both honoured her, and recognised her contribution to Art and Culture.
With “Seen and Unseen” the theme of this exhibition we have selected exhibits which not only trace Lisa Larson's career, but also shed light on aspects of her work which have hitherto remained hidden. As well as the classic designs we are familiar with, we can see rare and unique works created by Lisa Larson, which, however, are still generally unknown to the wider public. Works by her husband Gunnar Larson, a painter and printmaker; the man who Lisa engaged with in a life long symbiotic artistic dialogue, are also included. This exhibition, with circa 250 artworks on show, invites you to come closer and discover more of Lisa Larson.
